Daniel Forger '99: Bach Organ Recital

Daniel Forger '99 is the Robert W. and Lynn H. Browne Professor of Mathematics, and Research Professor of Computational Medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. A former president of the Harvard Organ Society from his student years, Forger has been on sabbatical and at residence at Harvard during the 2019–20 academic year. Combining his professional mathematical work with his avocational musical interests, Forger teaches a class at the University of Michigan entitled "Math, Music and the Brain," which includes much focus on the organ music of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Forger's organ recital of the music of Bach (scheduled for March 12, 2020) was not able to be performed live because of the protocols establisted by Harvard to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus. However, Forger's recital on the C. B. Fisk organ in the sanctuary of the Memorial Church was recorded in its entirety. The music includes three of Bach's trio sonatas (BWV 526, 528, and 529) along with the Fantasia in G minor (BWV 542) and the Toccata in F (BWV 540).
