“Help the Children” Concert Raises $4,800 for Immigrant Legal Aid Programs
The “Help the Children” benefit concert March 9, sponsored by Camerata Mediterranea and the Memorial Church of Harvard University, raised more than $4,800 for immigrant legal aid services in Cambridge, and at the United States border with Mexico.
Proceeds from the concert are going to the United Legal Defense Fund for Immigrants at the Cambridge Community Foundation, and the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES). The two organizations will split $4,825.74 donated by the audience during a special collection following the concert.
The performance in the sanctuary of Memorial Church featured the music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, choral song, as well as traditional music of South America and the Middle East, and American spirituals. The concert also included performances by The Boston Camerata, Blue Heron, the Choral Fellows of Harvard University, Dünya, cast members of Black Nativity and others.
“Help the Children” was presented jointly by Camerata Mediterranea, an intercultural musical institute (medmusique.org), and by the Memorial Church of Harvard University. For more coverage of the concert go to the Harvard Crimson.
