Dear friends,
In his ministry in Galilee and throughout his journey to Jerusalem, Jesus repeatedly turned his attentions and his care to those silenced and sidelined by power. Over and again, even as he took his final steps bearing a cross to his death, Jesus reached out and listened to women, to the poor, to those without opportunity and those without options.
On Friday morning, the Supreme Court overturned decades of settled law in a decision that will further afflict women and the poor, that will further deprive them of the ability to make choices that will affect the course of their lives. We know this decision affects the lives of many in our community.
We at the Memorial Church are grieving and outraged today, and we stand with women whose lives and bodies this decision will constrain. We pray that their voices and their choices will be respected and protected. And we raise unending prayers of penitence and lament until they are.
Yours in Christ,
Alanna, Calvon, and Matt
