The Christmas Season is here! Save the date for our upcoming Christmas services.
Christmas Carol Services
The 109th Annual Christmas Carol Services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec.11 at 8 p.m. Doors will open one hour before each service. Admission is free and open to the public; an offering for charity is collected. The Dec. 9 service will be broadcast live on Harvard's radio station WHRB 95.3 FM and via Internet streaming at whrb.org.
The Annual Christmas Carol Service, sung by the Harvard University Choir, is America’s oldest carol service. In 1910, the newly appointed University and Choirmaster, Archibald T. Davison, and Plummer Professor of Christian Morals, Edward C. Moore, devised the first annual Christmas Carol Service for Harvard University. The liturgy they prepared has remained virtually unchanged since: three lessons from scripture, interspersed with choral and congregational carols, beginning with “Adeste, fideles” sung in Latin. Over a century later, this service continues to be a cherished part of the festive season for the Harvard and Cambridge communities.
Christmas Eve Service
Join us on Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. for our Christmas Eve Service to celebrate the Nativity of Our Lord with hymns and Holy Communion. The preacher will be Jonathan L. Walton, Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Pusey Minister, The Memorial Church of Harvard University. All are welcome.
Collecting 400 Toys for local children
Please join with the Church School in supporting Phillips Brooks House’s 2018 Holiday Gift Drive. Our goal this year is to collect 400 new toys. This annual event provides gifts to children of all ages in Cambridge and Boston, many of whose families are without necessary resources. Gifts should be new and unwrapped.
Contributions can be placed in the large, gift-wrapped boxes in the narthex and downstairs in the Student Oasis until Sunday, Dec.16. Amazon packages are welcome. Please deliver to: The Memorial Church of Harvard University, 1 Harvard Yard, Cambridge, MA 02138.
