An official student organization of Harvard College, Harvard students form the core of the Society’s membership, yet many friends from the wider community play a vital role in the Society’s activities. Among other activities—such as sponsoring Harvard's famous midnight Halloween concert—the Society organizes visits to notable instruments throughout the Boston area and wider New England. In Fall 2013, its members performed in several concerts on campus and in Boston, sharing their love of organ music with the wider community. Over the course of the academic year (2013–14), Professor Walton will lead six evening discussion sessions aimed at teaching and facilitating a socio-historical reading of the Bible, using the same exegetical method he employs when preparing his Sunday morning sermons. The ancient service of Compline is held on the first Thursday of each month during the academic Term. Based upon the traditional evening liturgy of scripture, music, prayers, and silence, this twenty-minute service is sung in the candlelit space of Appleton Chapel by members of the Harvard University Choir. All are welcome.
