On March 4th, the Harvard University Choir performed Jonathan Dove's church opera Tobias and the Angel at the Memorial Church. Dove's music (libretto by David Lan) combines an overt lyricism with a sensitivity to text declamation that makes his music instantly relatable. Inventive orchestration, subtle characterizations and dramatic chorus permeate this work, resulting in a vivid portrayal of the quirkier episodes in the Apocrypha. – Edward Elwyn Jones, Gund University Organist and Choirmaster.
