David von Behren Live from Nebraska

David von Behren, Assistant Organist and Choirmaster at the Memorial Church is spending time in his home state of Nebraska this summer making music for MemChurch, each week recording Sunday service preludes and postludes from the organ at First Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln. As a high school student from Falls City two hours southeast, he would take lessons with church's music director, Tom Trenney.

Von Behren is also teaching music and providing private lessons to children at the Little Stars Summer Music Program, a music camp where he co-teaches with his mother Glenda in Falls City. This is their eighth year of teaching the program.

"I am teaching approximately 60 students this year - in-person classes but with health protocols and restrictions to keep the children and staff safe. Since we can't have outside artists come in, we're Zooming with them," said von Behren. "The program is three weeks and consists of 10 total classes of 3-6 and 7-11-year-old children. The idea behind the program is to excite children about Classical music at a young age."

Sunday (July 26), von Behren performed an organ recital streamed live from First Plymouth Congregational. The concert featured the music of Memorial Church Composer in Residence Carson Cooman as well as J.S Bach, Marcel Dupré, William Grant Still and William Bolcom (program is available below.)
