Harvard University is an institution cultivated, in part, on the foundation of long-standing traditions that inhabit nearly every corner of the institution. The Harvard University Choir is one of those traditions. For the past 189 years, the student choir has provided the musical backdrop to services at Harvard Memorial Church.  

This film, shot during the span of the 2016-2017 Fall Term, follows Choirmaster Edward Elwyn Jones and his staff as they pick though the procession of talented students auditioning for 16 open parts in the 50-member choir. ...

Harvard University Choir opens 2016-1017 season with new members and venues

May Wang ’20 held out her hand and from Harvard University Choirmaster Edward Elwyn Jones accepted a small envelope and a blue tie embroidered with the crest of the Harvard Memorial Church.

With a quick bit of ceremony and a handshake, Wang recently became a member of a piece of Harvard tradition spanning 180 years — the Harvard University Choir, one of the oldest and most prestigious choruses on campus.

From the Choirmaster: Successful Terms in Song with Rose, Bach and Evensong

The Harvard University Choir ended the Fall Term with a pair of carol services featuring local composer James Woodman’s exquisite The Midwife’s Tale, alongside world premieres by David Ashley White and Carson Cooman. At the end of January the group packed its bags and left chilly Cambridge for sunny Savannah, the first stop on its brief tour of the south. Concerts followed in Columbia and Charleston....
