"Joel Cohen, artistic director of the Camerata Mediterranea and the lead organizer of Friday's concert, noted that response from American humanitarian groups has lagged behind Europe's. "Somehow or other, it seems more distant from these shores, but wrongly, I think," he said. "We Americans have a lot at stake in this crisis, both from a geopolitical point of view but also from a moral and humanitarian standpoint.”
